People already know how well Railo does at running existing CFML code. In this contest we will challenge you to look into some of the cool Railo only features to see what you could code in just 4kb (about 100 lines of code) using Railo. We'll post/comment on all submissions, and the winner gets a free ticket to cf.Objective(). Email your entries to contact@getrailo.com before April 1st (anywhere in the world) for a chance to win!

Update: Being programmers, we prefer more details. A question of white space came up on the mailing list. Gert's response was, "The compiled class needs to be within 4K." Hope this helps someone considering this challenge for an awesome conference ticket.

Railo at CeBIT 2010

I am happy to say that at this year's CeBIT in Hannover, Germany we are joining the stand of our partners Contens and Intergral.
We are very proud that both Contens and Intergral are increasingly relying on Railo as a CFML engine. If you like to visit us, we have many new things we can show you and we might even help you with some problems. If you need any assistance from the best Railo programmers come see us in hall 6 stand J32. On one of the days Mark Drew will be there as well.

Reminder: CFUnited 2010 Speaker Selection

Just a reminder that speaker selection for CFUnited 2010 started and that if you have a CFML topic that you think should be discussed and you're want to try your hand at presenting, you should submit your here ( http://callforspeakers.cfconf.org/ ). If there's any interest in presenting Railo related topics (ehcache caching, clustering, etc), by all means, let us know so we can assist you.

If you haven't been to cfunited before, I highly recommend it. I went to the 2009 conference (Thanks again Railo!) and it was great. Met a lot of people, talked a lot about CFML, jQuery and AIR. I dare say there was a lot of CFML developers interested in jQuery tracks. If you think jQuery is being discussed way too much in the cfml community (is that possible?) and you're a fan of dojo and whatnot, YOU SHOULD BE PRESENTING. Topics like this are awesome because they're relevant and they expose CFML developers to another framework that they might possibly look into / work with.

If you are considering going to CFUnited, do yourself a favor, take a laptop. If you don't have one, beg, steal or borrow. There are a few hands on development track, but most of it is presentation and you should be trying out new code or brainstorming while you're there. The whole place is a big fountain of ideas. I have seen people assisting with debugging other people's code in the hallways, etc.

Plus, If you're working on something cool now, you have a chance to present that 'something' at CFUnited's demo mania - they let anyone get up and present interesting stuff on their project. Slidesix's desktop app, Fusiondox and John Mason's Merlin project were presented among others. Even Raymond Camden had a cfml maze demonstration that from his blog. So, big or small ideas, feel free to share with the CFML community!

Well, July is coming to an end. Not sure about the rest of you, but I'm glad. It's been a long month. :) August is due up any moment now and CFUnited is just around the corner with less than 12 days to go. If you're not able to make it to CFUnited, you'll probably find Twitter to be the best place to keep up with all the news that's coming out. Here's how the draw will work:

We'll randomly select one of the seven and DM them on Twitter to confirm that they can actually use the ticket (i.e., that they plan to book flights and hotel to attend the conference on our ticket!).

If the first draw says "no", they'll get a T shirt and we'll draw again, until we find a willing winner!
The other finalists will get a T shirt.
Our intent is that the ticket go to one of the finalists, to actually attend CFUnited, rather than have anyone trade/sell their ticket so that someone who made the effort to enter the competition reaps the benefit.

Railo is giving away a ticket for CFUnited 2009 to one lucky winner in a Twitter-based competition held over the next seven days. Six runners-up will get a "Got Railo?" T shirt of their choice. For a chance to win, all you have to do is Tweet something cool or witty about Railo! Competition Rules:

Entries must use the #cfunited-railo hash tag to identify them.
The competition is open Wednesday July 15th (tomorrow) thru Tuesday 21st (seven days).
The Railo team will pick what we think is the coolest / funniest Tweet each day.
When the competition closes, the pick from each day will go into a hat and the CFUnited ticket winner will be chosen by random selection. The remaining six picks will get a T shirt of their choice from our store.
You may enter as many times as you want each day (but we will pick a different entrant each day).
We will contact the winners by DM on Twitter so you must follow @railo to be notified!

We will Tweet each day's pick once we have made a selection (our goal is to make each day's selection the following day) and we will blog all the winners within a day or two of the competition closing. Good luck!

Railo Team interviewed at cf.Objective() 2009

On Thursday evening, after the first full day of sessions at cf.Objective(), Brian Meloche interviewed Gert, Mark, Peter and Sean for his CFCconversations podcast. Brian made sure to ask us some of those hard questions that I know have been coming up in the community around Railo's intentions. I hope you enjoy this relatively short podcast (42 minutes) and I hope it answers some of the questions you may have about our new organizations in the UK and the US. If you have questions and you're here at cf.Objective(), come along to our Birds of a Feather session at 3pm in the Nicollet C room where Gert, Peter and myself will open ourselves up to Q & A from the community!

Gert, Mark, Peter and Sean will all be at cf.Objective() 2009 this week. Mark, Peter and Sean are all speaking (on non-Railo-specific topics) but all four of us will be available to answer any questions you have about Railo as well as the support and consulting packages that we offer. I expect you'll be able to find us in the bar every evening - and the opening reception on Wednesday evening - but we should be easy enough to find wherever we are throughout the conference! cf.Objective() promises to be an awesome conference and we're all looking forward to the great sessions and to meeting everyone and hearing your Railo success stories!
